And in the wee, wee hours I'm also knitting these teeny tiny baby bunnies from MochiMochi Land. They're so sweet and according to MG they "like to nap in pockets". Seriously, do it! I needed a rug for the Mission Exchange changing room floor and my budget was exactly zero dollars. Well, I've been looking for an excuse to crochet a rug for ages and recently ran across this lovely bit inspiration at Sockmonster on Etsy. I figured it couldn't be that hard to make a rug, right? Only problem was that I wasn't in the mood to buy tons of tees and I'd already raided my closet for different t-shirt project. What to do?

Then came my one and only moment of brilliance this week... I thought to buy a flat t-shirt material sheet at the thrift store. Super cheap (.60 cents) and way easier to cut into long strips! So I cut up the whole sheet into 1.5 inch strips, stretched them so that the edges would curl in, tied them together and crocheted a quick circle out of them. Oh and I used a jumbo crochet hook, super fast! I think this project would be amazing in color, but I needed to reserve the right to wield bleach. Maybe I'll have to make another one?...

The two biggies are that I'm back in the design business officially with my own company, hooray! If you'd like to check out Tiny Bungalow Design, please look HERE.

And the next tidbit of happiness is that I'm opening a thrift & vintage store in The Camphouse called Mission Exchange. All proceeds will benefit The Mission Chattanooga, so I'm super excited! Plus it's a really tiny space so I've had a blast designing the shop interior. Think lots of white on white with layers of texture from found objects as well as modern elements - Anthropologie meets CB2. It's going to feel like shopping in an insanely hip closet without the awkwardness of feeling like you're robbing a friend of their best goodies. Finally stages are happening... I'll have photos up soon.

As for the yummy lollipops, well MG and I made them today while McB napped. They were yummy! Here's a quick lollipop tutorial if you're interested. I added lemon oil and fresh lemon thyme from my garden. If I were getting married again (which I'm definitely not!), I would totally make these as fun, cheap, easy wedding favors. Wouldn't you love to get a gourmet lollipop as a wedding favor? So happy making!

You know, it just doesn't feel right or maybe it seems a bit unfinished. Well, one of my so-called "waiting to be glorious" spots is the next to the front door. Every time I leave the house I think, "hmmm, not so great". So I decided to give it about 4 minutes thought yesterday - if it couldn't be helped quickly, it wasn't going to happen. You know McB was running around with the hammer, so speed was of the essence...

Anyway, I did a quick dig in the attic for some antique letters (they were in my living room up north for ages) and grabbed one of MG's "real" paintings (painted on proper canvas) and grouped them with a painting that my dad made me for Christmas a while back. Hammer, hammer, hammer and ta-da! It's bright, cheery and very colorful. Plus all the pieces remind me of what's most important every time I leave the house to tackle the world - imagination, creation, family, friends and love!

So pick a spot, any spot, that bothers you and give it about 4 minutes. It's just enough time to get things done without over-thinking it. I know that's the biggest challenge for some of you, so give it a try. You'll be amazed at what can happen! And if you change your mind in a weeks time, give it a change again. Nothing is final and it's just walls! Happy arranging!
-HAPPY GLORIOUS SPOTS-
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB1uG1WJLqlGSxFIUB-fdlF2Y-Yb3xxov57YHA8vxZKuPFK07f-ZxOlCv-feZnSh5JtdmwCr3ETE92Df75BiVsSNaMqEL18wfcMXVxdKD8esLEortXZnsJpsCotX3tWWZMm6SvX7bNjBEi/s320/frontdoor.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629586998193097378" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239288641199370303.post-91902647597040716592011-07-13T07:43:00.000-07:002011-07-13T07:55:31.687-07:00Confessions of a Cluttered DesktopWell, those of you that have had the pleasure (or pain) of seeing my computer desktop, know exactly what this post is all about... I have issues with severe creative "idea" clutter! Yup, every single time I spy something fun to make, buy or look at, I drag the photo to my desktop. As you can imagine, this creates a bit of a visual disaster. But to be perfectly honest, the shear overload of color actually makes me happy, not stressed (though others have reacted quite differently!). And I know exactly where everything is. Honest!! So I thought I'd share a tidbit of the hundreds of images plaguing my desktop - they're from the bottom right hand corner. I'd really love to give credit to the original creators but they are long lost due to excessive dragging... I'm sure you could look them up on either Etsy or Instructables. Hope you find a bit of happy inspiration like I did - the tree bed is super awesome, right?!
<img style="float:left; Yes, weekly. It's specially designed to combat "Manic Mondays" and so far it's been a huge success. Instead of grumbling into another week after a long weekend of events, we celebrate Pez Day. Silly I know, but lots of fun for very little money. There's something so simple and happy about the brightly colored dispensers. Each one is like a little slice of pop culture. And the candies taste just like childhood in a rectangle - you can't help but smile when you eat them.

So each week, we go on a field trip to find new Pez and both kids get to pick their very own. Trust me, the selection process is painstaking! And after they eat their 1 roll of candies (yeah, yeah... I know they come with 3 rolls, shhh...), we add the new Pez "friends" to our collection. I think we're up to over 80 dispensers last time I counted - thanks to a ton that I had from high school. I'm thinking the kids are going to have to have a "Pez" themed bedroom...

Anyway, I encourage you to start a silly holiday of your own. Why not, life is short?! Happy, happy Pez Day to you and yours!
-HAPPY NEW HOLIDAYS-
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCmhFfImdKffcGAWGowmDdo-D3EobzcAWxvZPvlzAZufXkN21nUfr9XMk_zZ947oDQ4OUj3o_C6nl60wwY70iEZCenar6dbfRqySXkONuf2TaS6AfReyZ-b1SktReKb6J_X4dLRGoBQvaP/s320/pez3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5623063752671030898" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOsJGoKKblkF9odaUSvYv7Nlq8MHM9xcF1PkcqEMFAfp4NlMmPIHlRrTYGDkh9ss_yfP-qtqEwTaDS0ypRqMFyrU9Ur7j6mUva8UY3pHlYdMbzn_mEoHNhyphenhyphenWJcEk61Vt-JTMmgI95UXTuh/s320/pez2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5623063161563220834" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTNIuD9UF0hneXJzar4o8JaFtAVt0xPNDOUts6Nj1kj2KvPXOnyi-KorL3u3MiXtvkBSIfGuZ-Yee0HDaf2C_djde4T6FSX4hM26Pt4Ni3sYxCRku66LbEIJ90JrHHdavTpQXyFapISAzy/s320/pez1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5623063158902238930" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239288641199370303.post-51874671903323980612011-06-13T18:56:00.000-07:002011-06-13T20:05:46.633-07:00Yo happy TWO!I can hardly believe it but McB turned two yesterday! It seems like not very long ago that I was blogging about going to the hospital to have him and thinking he was a girl... whoa was I wrong!! So we celebrated my little man with his one and only favorite show of all time - Yo Gabba Gabba (Buzie, you're probably cracking up right now at the irony!). For those of you who don't know about "having a party in your tummy", let me introduce you.

I baked my buns off so that we'd have 75 Yo Gabba Gabba brilliantly colored cupcakes with Muno, Brobee, Plex and Toodee toppers along with a very green Brobee cake for the celebration. Once again, Betty Crocker Gel Food Coloring saved the day, thanks Betty! And I tried a new type of fondant for the cake - homemade marshmallow fondant. It was really cheap to make and tasted way better than proper fondant. Definitely give it a try if you're making a cake any time soon.

A huge thanks to everyone that helped us celebrate and especially to Satoya and Jason for singing really, really loud. You guys are the bestest!! McB was a very happy birthday boy!!
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjMlk7eYrewoVwbPqtPmP3VyLRjbWLcU8t4-kOgrOjGS5gFNeixggLCzKxbnMsI3RbKljqEEEq0J9VPfo92echpZTkRAf61kfcRZe3BM1pUpLkvY1y3svgwF56t_xqSBnlzUUBueQVkpPm/s320/gabbacake3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617906036575514146" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlIOCZHZZutrpaY7cm6YSwygDO3vKqr5q6xltuiZsieqdkCuQAUd8XfTh_XcB4N2tE8My24E4qGPedm2Txn-c9VvLVJUx8VtNNk18EDvQxjQjwZE3aXmczjYA7Sr_fgXyN9vZtvJcgmA6J/s320/gabbacake5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617906022421867058" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeozJQKQ6rmDNJNMg0bX2OyHCJnEsK85zn0jlPG4OZSl-HEjEWUmFvYk34tJOihl1pULUbkJE9R3yZMVnAj1QBoe-9sE_KQPX2ghNqcwsQibXfTvAFpH9btvIIcELGF42sLTF4g16j0y6j/s320/gabbacake4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617906031837723746" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7dAok_9Vm3Oi96tT9Pi0Gshw2M6KaKV-SVFy8y4q6ijikAE0o0aDaQrJ4FWGxuyWCnCx8IDl-DkUpJjLofq0WNU03Tal48snkUZ9e4kcace9w_TSV3R521bj4kijs1Uxn3cXbOwZR3nnX/s320/gabbacake1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617906018143126354" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7bIHYvNr-dIEUUoDJjE_CKseSYX-D9X8qmlwNIWlTFg78gldKuH7GbQRuZoM8fKxGb4UJSwppdZNbUrwszz2EJ3ts-Fe2fJguiofHg669iUE3_Ga298A1iGBl12cTIGw9PU2UhpKtZBok/s320/gabbacake2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617906009550571954" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239288641199370303.post-3017889268609917802011-06-02T08:02:00.000-07:002011-06-02T08:05:10.468-07:00Happy Ten Years!Ten years married to my best friend - lucky, lucky me!!!
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Psnr07hTAScdAuxZ4Qs84U2fy35rUNRfjyx0wxQlSouRcXkMWWwv_HL0j-beqCvNUP1S1mWrJfOHgjfU0oh0jOoFbIWhSCndghpNlE03OW_eIc2vQG08jkoLZ-Z3mflCLNdha9pgBCfN/s320/10years.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5613638647301385314" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239288641199370303.post-83006873163657600862011-05-31T11:44:00.000-07:002011-05-31T12:03:09.433-07:00Lemon Balm Salt Scrub TutorialThanks to my lovely friend Miss Angie, I've rediscovered the intense greatness of salt scrubs. They do wonders on legs like mine - aka. overused, mistreated, under-appreciated, shouldn't be shown the light of day kinda legs. Yup, they're in need of some help and love! So I figured that there must be an easy way to make my own steady supply of salt scrub that would be super cheap... and then I remembered the huge patch of lemon balm in my garden...

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
• 1 cup of kosher salt
• 1 & 1/4 cups of baby oil (I used "with Aloe")
• 1/2 cup very finely chopped herb of choice

Gently mix the salt and oil together in a bowl. Add the herbs and mix again. Spoon into a glass jar (I used a pasta sauce jar) and refrigerate. The longer the scrub sits the more the herbs will "saturate" the oil, so good! Most fresh herbs would be amazing - like lavender, rosemary, mint, sage or even basil. I'm thinking this is a really easy handmade gift for mother's day, Christmas, baby & bridal showers, teachers, thank yous, etc. And if you package some in a cool mason jar or baby food jar with a pretty ribbon you're all set. Oo, how fun would it be to have a set of baby food jars with different scrubs in them for a new mom? Now I'm getting excited! Happy scrubbing everyone!
PS - the photo of McB is my new favorite. I've never seen him sit still for that long! For those of you that are in the dark like I was, here's the scoop...

There are gardening groups all over the country that meet and chat and swap. Now I know this may sound like it's for the old folks, but trust me it's not. If you like local food and farmer's markets, this is a must-do field trip. Promise! I went to my first one with a friend on Saturday. We drove in to the Henry Horton State Park and there was a gathering like I've never seen - tons of tables filled with hand-potted plants & veggies of all varieties. Plus bags (literally brown shopping bags) filled with homegrown seeds. And here's the best part, you don't pay for anything! Seriously, it's truly a swap. You go around visiting the tables, spy what you'd like and then the incredibly generous, knowledgeable gardener who dug them up, hands you the pot. That simple, just bring plants and receive plants. I made a huge batch of seed bombs to share, but was totally unprepared for the generosity of everyone. One lady put it best, she said in a thick southern accent, "why can't folks just be nice and share?" It really is that simple.

So I came home with a carload (again literally) full of flowers, seeds and veggies to add to my newly growing garden. And, unlike buying at a store, my garden is now filling up with tidbits of love from other people that like dirt as much as me. Oo and I'm so excited that I scored one of these!
- HAPPY GIVING GARDEN -
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRsftu92uM-5-eyNpQtWPgNU9rbynfmHSR47_iKooD4PFuiPYoIixOj2yWyTwKlVUHnaTgUKO-dlVYc86VBbw9gcW2RWHffZ0RdvB6VsVNHnDFUUz0j32EWyhTso0v335yxDdGuiQtgYbL/s320/swap5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610082288200525378" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiShuqVh4RhxhHrrTHA5n-M9ae7O6Dog0XZVFzhTODskr0lQGGxrpp5sH5v7Ua3OwZ2xen23WXtHpS_t52iXCGTok343EAbJtoECJFizWXROwbb5lJBRy2HQ0yEUKSYu6hwRWG0GEIrxjc2/s320/swap3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610082260006859106" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7Hz6xS6UsNywnqtYOFKZyZOBm8cB4LHbyi20whKrIgJiOGm1dq7v8zQVmNtzQHgGZC5UcwcLW1ob7brrkGPDnuQ7yYzp-6g7TYlq3DEgjcRh_cjho3Kg2zUakiBT3QiZvWK-Eerep5__E/s320/swap4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610082227027880978" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-4jSP9EXeS49hrfy3Hmo6r-PAS-BrEOLd4ul9P9GzcVXDjhxXVZVGBGfknaGf4-e9PPEh-s0AvIS5bvMteyhvinXJOJK0L5_DzpoYIBxyexmyX3qAhwXTymPlvsnAL6C97yliRKhui14o/s320/swap2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610082219092660914" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239288641199370303.post-80555004837900764492011-05-19T21:04:00.000-07:002011-05-19T21:11:15.855-07:00A Sneaky Peeky!Ok, don't want to share too much but I'm bursting... the brand new "Summer 2011" series of Lavender Kitty patterns will be ready for release VERY soon! Can't wait to share... have I mentioned that I'm a tad excited yet?! YAY! Try as I might, it's always a battle. So when I tasted some the the yummiest muffins ever at my friend Micah's house, I had to give them a try. They were tasty, healthy, easy and moist. So good! Surely MG and McB would love them?!

Only problem was, when I finally went to make them, a bunch of the ingredients were missing from the pantry... hmm mmm, thanks daddy! So here's my version of a classic bran muffin recipe - it's great cause you throw in all the random little bits of cereal that you have lingering. You know, the end of the box that no one wants to eat? And the kids thought it was funny to eat "super cereal muffins" - they both had 2! Shocking and healthy, yay for kid friendly breakfasts! Plus this recipe makes about 4 dozen, so they're great for brunch parties. You could even bake a dozen and keep the batter in your fridge for up to 3 days for fresh muffins every morning. Yum!

INGREDIENTS:
• 2 cups bran cereal (like ALL BRAN)
• 4 cups cereal mix - I used raisin bran, grape nuts, cheerios, brown rice puffs
• 1 quart buttermilk
• 5 cups flour
• 2 1/2 cups sugar - I mixed brown & white cause I was short
• 1 cup oil
• 1 tsp salt
• 4 eggs
• 3 tsp baking soda
• 2 cups boiling water
• Optional - 1 cup raisins

WHAT TO DO:
1. In a large bowl, soak bran in boiling water for a couple minutes. Add oil, eggs, sugar.
2. In a medium bowl, mix baking soda, salt, flour, raisins. Add cereal mix.
3. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk into large bowl.
4. Let sit in the fridge for 12 hours or overnight.
5. Bake in regular muffin pan for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
ENJOY!!

-HAPPY HEALTHY BREAKFAST-
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghyk3ZDqZZIvIVoElSG0_lru8KTHd3AbKmy1ByaPRob74KUOtfEQ9pisr3H7oVPYUbYyq-adp9OZfjswppi5oAaCi8dO5a8iRVbX6peaOznrZyFfbTo_gM8amFtfH13EbleubAKvtWEZZt/s320/muffins3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607357162267868082" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOrwxVPdPVG5-92SKe6S8wr7aKaIQHoUKtYk-hbonOJKhQiJMmNko-RjwjG_ZXgmLMxnkG3KKLmFnu-m1XSXrdGEGsfkHZhKRZvhS6t5TLQo50KLo01U7ekfyRBB_9QbnLpTpjcK2RURoa/s320/muffins4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607357159424414994" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3jRVUA8j_JU-V3HB8rsfTfP4RyjRb7vqMeTlviLI150fz4sfUVf5EUIWyKwfu4kAHW4WiwUEcJmX3zqnL_yZi2zyqmz2zrbP2UaIc_cZYCr0iZ67KSmZgfh4w8rsw1T6skdAX2HFGnsQz/s320/muffins5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607357157120266866" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239288641199370303.post-90769501973080459322011-05-03T09:18:00.000-07:002011-05-03T09:34:38.292-07:00Latte Love Cup Sleeve Pattern!Here's a little pattern that I'm teaching at Craft Social Workshop tonight, so you're getting a sneak peek, shhh... it's great for a rainy day or stormy night...

LATTE LOVE CUP SLEEVE KNITTING PATTERN:
aka. a little bit of sweater coziness for your coffee. The storms came in so quickly that I only had minutes to pile the kids and pips (our little white dog) into the bathtub. There were quite a few rounds of "Row, row your boat" while the wind howled. Hey, whatever works! Thankfully our home was spared, but many friends had homes crushed and are still dealing with the after effects. If you have a chance to send relief, please give it a thought.

And on to something happy for a moment... I don't often share my design work, but I've been busy rebranding The Windfarm Coffee Bar and it's finally finished! In an effort to tie the coffee bar in with The Camp House and to position it for easy expansion, we decided to rename the store to "Camp House Espresso". The new design was inspired by The Mission's roots in Rwanda, truly "handcrafted", excellent coffee and a commitment to beyond fair-trade beans. It's been fun to watch the new signage, cup sleeves, etc go up. The only flub was the new mugs arriving with the logo printed upside down - heehee! I'm thinking they'd be great "you are special to us" gifts to the daily caffeine addicts. To celebrate Earth Day I taught a "seed bomb making" workshop at Craft Social. If you know what this is, you can fully appreciate how much of a blast it was. If you don't, let me make your world a tad happier...

Do you ever feel a bit rebellious but you're not in the mood to get in any real trouble? Do you notice all the bare, ugly spots around town and want to make them prettier? Try "guerilla gardening" with seed bombs! All you need to do is follow the recipe below to make balls filled with seeds and all the good stuff that they need to start growing. Then you throw them wherever a little bit of happiness is needed and wildflowers will grow. You know, like empty lots, the side of the highway or maybe your backyard.

Just before midnight we drove all around town "bombing" away through the car windows, the sun roof and over fences (no private property was harmed I promise). It was wild, crazy and hilarious - I felt like I was in high school all over again! I can't wait to see what sprouts in approx 45 days and we're definitely having a seed bomb party in the very near future. Try it, I promise you'll like it!

SEED BOMB RECIPE:
This recipe is written in "parts" - determine what you "part" measures and mix away (mine was 1/4 cup)
• 2 parts all natural clumping kitty litter (Arm & Hammer Natural made with corn)
• 2 parts water
• 1 part compost and clay mix (I dug some clay out of the yard)
• 1/2 part wildflower seed
Mix together until moldable. Form into balls, about shooter marble size. Let dry for at least an hour. Happy guerilla gardening!!
-HAPPY TIMES, GREAT FRIENDS-
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVJ1GWzkoruF3wtK2v_swacA3clZxpuD0tQpX4v0pxC07N9MwBkrKMI6iUEgu596p_gUd2ZUdIE66l-EjBCsgCUZBSVVjQQJu0IJ7o08z-UaAih3OZy0jwr7t-bxjYXtw7FtuO4mRX8Z3_/s320/bombing.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5599703334192796386" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239288641199370303.post-84971634038557296532011-04-21T19:34:00.000-07:002011-04-21T20:03:49.261-07:00April So Far...April has been BUSY! Lots of new things happening, some I can share now and others are percolating. I'll begin with the biggie... for those of you that don't know yet, as of July 1st I'll be looking for a new job. It's been a year and a half of crazy hard work with The Mission Chattanooga and now it's time to move on. Unfortunately it's 100% a case of funding, not lack of passion or results. Though I'm really sad that I won't be a staff member anymore, I'm very happy with what's been achieved in such a short time and feel privileged to have been a part of it. Lots of amazing design work was done and many lives were/and continue to be changed (including mine!). I'll still be involved as much as possible and Craft Social Workshop will hopefully continue to grow. But, now I'm on the hunt for the next step. I know it's not the ideal time to look for a job, but I also know that there must be a solution. Design work, etsy, ALL ideas welcome!

On a lighter note, I went to an amazing garden center the other day! Seriously, they had some insanely funky plants - see pic of "Carnivorous Monkey Bamboo Jug Plant" and "Red Hot Cats-tail". They also had those super comfy retro gliders. My porch is begging for one. Ok, maybe I'm just begging for one?! Thankfully I was distracted by the most amazing fairy gardens. Ugh, I've been wanting to make one forever!

Anyway, that's April so far... I'm exhausted, time to go to bed!
-HOPING FOR HAPPY SOLUTIONS-
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKZERSVcbevyf8iDsoBipIVYdMagqiLl7FcdsSkHAr5FBYEdxK8UY3APxCH3jaVgzfCPMCE7UOVJR4hu-IDZy1AOEqQLjF24AoaZMJN4TK22uLkSYUiHYKvlrZN2LjtI3jV_g4WMW4rJGw/s320/april6.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598238043042699650" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwRw5wehG15EdKKzY1h5xHDt1hfgg8WYT5UjbIBXazN0POYf7I9o-6KJhqY2iyk4pyAh60Fywz4E8MKi-UBvJyUPgxFzoO6JE2tPE04suFunIuvnuKESwKsS2poCPbs-QcitrjOcVEeHdc/s320/april3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598237855664986690" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3CLUw_kPrSksjWZLTHKcGSDbYXFiQph36QOmb1jZVsXEErUk-4nWFTY7oQ6ik-fJxvxWlSbpIzIksLHdJFf9etNB0w0An1khJFtiOFNe7KJEitud2KesWv5Ay9QfuQSrXuo9lh0-lf2LW/s320/april5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598237844194252882" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ9J5nMnVCsklfKDKjappZvMxEPchVeLd-lDM8E94EMbB9Qy8KBpyO-ZIWuhBbsCw1Ez8UihqhfnKpr5twj7rO3ASFQQHmxJ_m3cDZt9XXvB1B6Hvnz-q47lget4wFu1ItSTWS3GNhoRkR/s320/april2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598237841297646162" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiACHwsbsmub5QLEgqur7JuY9-_nUNHJs85Mlwks2akjiJsPS-t4003IT6V5bJ5gUk9hrNa8wBdCbV79M_vwtQiNrSQ1oI7SLAH5fdhyFDTVpDBbS61TeJzYMv_fdNmDYf7JRpwVRtByeCp/s320/april1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598237833404140386" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRkkWJcSkhtSQ7GyAeiqOQ6XM6ljTJ5AYfZnNSZC-Iz0LA1caeSL0v5A3Gwuo5iEbxRVBOHT_Le_MMcknUUQD-Mz0kYKe1kVS3I6VA878jTpAUiQAv-ZnDV1Kqi7qXUAoxGU96kUY4dfjn/s320/april4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598237832364368514" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239288641199370303.post-66082435094178202142011-04-11T21:24:00.000-07:002011-04-11T21:47:05.116-07:00Color in Motion!Have I mentioned that I love Chattanooga lately? If not, I love Chattanooga! It's truly a great little city, with tons of fun things happening all the time. Most are cheap or free, yay! Meaning they work really well with my current "we're going to have a blast for pennies" theme.

So MG and I went to a totally free kids class last Saturday at the Hunter Museum of American Art - she had a blast. It was called "Art in Motion" and they held it right in the middle of the museum. Pretty brave on their part if you ask me! The curator discussed "Phenomena Royal Violet Visitation" by Paul Jenkins with the kids and then an amazing creative movement teacher helped them make up a dance about the painting. I loved how they let the kids figure it out for themselves instead of giving them the "proper" answers. So cool! And of course I was excited that the artwork was super big and colorful... talk about a simple explanation of a great piece!!
-HAPPY MOVING ART-
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4B8P1hvCzICLlcl9xj4hUxks5JKB_3XeuIOYVT2wsoLg6IlbS_YzuAFXvCyuf2XOW0KZrPdhAvmTKvlU4rSPD5_yX3hiSTibQ-0808BV1PPIfz8_aWLYK7HRNmVre1Y-JiT2qjHS-5Sro/s320/hunter5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5594553990445721058" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilWjxkLL26GhMCoIPgmfj_gvwVrZ77JQuv7c0KgE4TFUgHMzpXMpjAkcUBsoFEgD-dygvj1L1VTTOe38mgkbjAAeelqPCZRcauJTSoSowABEqlPWGN1jm-7yy8xHBhS6m03zMsFpV6N31E/s320/hunter1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5594553983391998770" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmg7IjwJ3ckNG6p_MisOx83DIQ4SxqAUXNc6y-kobUnJBFrtx7v_q1ZL_AjiqN-HGucj-To477segZoBUxsBJt-Wkp5Q-y3DwooUYHf2BwI0m-gY0SXjms72vmhEfgugbLkt2-zu2Df0O8/s320/hunter2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5594553979100361522" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVm9QFwuQ-nBhi7R80411rlSiHJt5txkmdADYUGwUtYTdT1v4_aUxOG0d6H8buSxsDdfiIgyoXBnflmJatYAOtoSvg2cQ7P04RaE0-QWn-TkVn0VLbe12ngmll9g5JnYWIXNc4TbkOZkqb/s320/hunter4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5594553971536193826" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYMBIEvi6xaVX7bvCV9s-yhgdCOWEe3tZpSs1-aSgQOm4RhczKH6MekIJJK9ghvEcvW04KkcSB3RboB5YtsiOgrYxRFaSInJB4CEYo01a1YhX6VGlW1yUnggdvMvrbimejytzTEPegnVTj/s320/hunter3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5594553969032385730" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239288641199370303.post-76705645140092837312011-04-08T14:25:00.000-07:002011-04-08T18:03:50.816-07:00Spring Sewing!Ahhh Spring is in full swing and I LOVE 80 degree weather! Plus all the other springish bonuses - lime green trees, fuschia flowers, sitting on the porch and digging in dirt. You know, all the good stuff! Last night I even made pasta with a sage brown butter using goodies from my garden. And everyone ate it, success!

Anyway, I always try to stick to knitting when it's chilly cause it seems like torture to think of wearing a sundress while you're freezing. But at the first sign of flip-flop weather summer sewing is a go. So yesterday I sewed a ton of burlap bags for the Craft Social "seed bomb" workshop next week. Briar had fun playing with all the "itchy bits" - aka. scrap burlap. And I didn't have fun cleaning them up later!

But the most fun I've had in a while was something that's been on my craft "to do" list forever... last night I finally upcycled a thrift store skirt and tshirt into a sundress (70% off = $1.30 total). It was a bit of trial and error, but a super easy way to make a cheap, cute dress. I cut off the bottom of the skirt to create the sash, re-hemmed the skirt, attached it to the shirt, then sewed & attached the sash using a seam in the front and the skirt loops in the back. The skirt even has pockets as a bonus, yay! Really very easy, you can do it! Next time I think it'll be an even quicker process... Thanks Toya for the company and tech support! I feel 10 pounds lighter and $96 a month richer! I'm telling you, those places are wonderful when needed and miserable when you're trying to break-up with them. M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-E. So now that we've finally gone our separate ways, I've been digging through old boxes and happily finding all kinds of goodies. The best part is that it feels like decorating for free. Or maybe great thrift store shopping in my pajama pants - we all can dream! Anyway, thought I'd share a tiny snapshot of what I found. As well as an insanely cool turquoise sewing machine that I desperately tried to justify buying today. It really would have been great friends with my red machine...

-HAPPY COLORFUL BUNGALOW-
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhyphenhyphenA3ftb1-d51qcEjIhNHBbw0vz-8EhSBPopdIAjolJPWfaKIF9yFSx8zeYtvgPcmHrbui-tRhV3wsK1XskuurxL4-zfaXM4MFOTv9tcFKR0V2hATiUFxoiX4_70xg-XxFc2k6lG0hxp0W/s320/olive1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592448933871387202" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjvH2x97JfG-EOiwaYiFrJBVzAlvj6Y5yCS_DUF5DyKZXEnJwm-PWrrEu-Rm1uoG_8xqGScsnRpsLXd16NUPaBhPZ9_sDDkGI96b_tEk1SIIm7ExaNXTsKIyU-nukh6oZL0uNV3HEEGmvJ/s320/olive4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592304350700592450" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0JDiNetUaiz1krPeVVs4c3sfUWD-HfUwEmcKltwp5JPJCwoaK30taWCz0l1FvgvmxExc9W3f1CPRNiKYGBrYA0qUaZhfn1x5WpYHZqXjhf_23jDrEsv8E9ws3mG1WyoDErtwliJ2yCBSQ/s320/olive2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592304350424626962" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYUyoyKtd5JekZKfrHIv4R8SoLu4MFlhJo5X7SOnjNljEq784KR2sN5imP_5LUFCPw-48U7pcCTUbg8hAv1CRX6VmGTAIPam8NWwgGj4Y0jwjWcEXQEmCMinxdYw_ldvN6ghaUgiGdL7bf/s320/olive3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592304346043917730" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239288641199370303.post-62017904292016864192011-03-26T20:18:00.000-07:002011-03-26T20:30:30.232-07:00Sugarberry Bathroom!Sorry for the quick post, but I have to share some new excitement! Our tiny bungalow has 1 bathroom...yes, one. So the fact that it's been painted high gloss "kettle" black since we bought it has seriously hurt my heart. I love black, just not in that way. Anyway, today I took the plunge and FINALLY committed to a new color - "sugarberry" by Behr. It's pink, but as un-pink as a pink could be. Lots of gray and a tiny hint of lilac in it. Let's just say that even Tim likes it, hooray! Plus the name is just fun to say. Thanks Mystical Rose for the great tip!
I've also included a photo of something new that's coming soon... Like letters, postcards and unexpected packages. I even like those freebie coupon books because they contain deals that I swear are made just for me! So you can imagine how happy my heart was today when I found a box on my doorstep from my great friend and old design client, Julie. She is A-mazing and absolutely wonderful to us. MG is thrilled with the cutest pair of crocheted cupcakes (I need to make some more, fun!) and the note on McB's gift is still cracking me up! Yup. For any of you that have ever had a storage space, attic, basement or even a closet, you know how scary this can be. After all the dread it turned out to be quite fun. Honest! I found all kinds of goodies including old photos of our early days in New York and some of my kid's preemie baby clothes. It's hard to believe they were that teeny!

Anyway, I also found a bunch of home stuff that we used to stage our house in Southport. Including some really great shower curtain rings - exciting, I know! So when I went to change out the el cheapo ones, both kids had rings stacked up their arms. Which got me thinking... how to make them into a fun project?

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
• cheap plastic shower curtain rings
• white glue
• fun paper napkins or tissue paper
• a junkie paintbrush

WHAT TO DO:
Cut up the napkins or paper into 1 inch squares (no need to be perfect about it). Paint enough glue onto a ring to stick one of the squares on. Continue until the whole ring is covered. Then coat the ring with another layer of glue as a varnish. Let it dry for a couple hours and ta-da, a fun kid's sized bangle! You could add glitter, gems, buttons, etc. Tons of fun for a princess party craft and super cheap!

PS - Because this involves glue and some skill, I would recommend this craft for ages 3 plus
-HAPPY REPURPOSED HOME GOODS-
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm4kfDRJ66NNn_N8R51L8SsVw-kfwIOI8eW62wLLN7G3JIcSLPlZ-uNhRo0C_WW1xD0kvcQyYhoMZ6jn1OneJKqf8Uc6b02dDHZJcFyLZSZmTrqyUqjUEC-NddG-6Z3uQFB4DDOFSGrxbr/s320/curtainbangles2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5586733070799799106" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIz9lvYEA6GGGHVchyphenhyphen8-7ULpDwQygfWKztEMNRSpAwDhT02jr3pKulzUMpt406zmebbwOj9vhskFWjBrXy4Ypg_xXW45WED58C9t65PnRlDtFPKtxm8s2GouBntxJBf5BkoEH7JvlD4IEy/s320/curtainbangles1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5586733314624595410" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLcKDoL2rveXdXsw5WZqnALNZPcSspi5IDlR5AfhLBdh4PpsaOVx420WkWp2flh7hJkidrzGamhkpnpOQYZGyxT4LqyxmL4jzukZm5V_YAKpDhIaSg0EFDPj11-d2piPGYp9sdq7ofiMfo/s320/curtainbangles3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5586733321019519090" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3239288641199370303.post-36418940353250285962011-03-06T11:45:00.000-08:002011-03-06T18:51:26.513-08:00Spring Super hero!Spring is in the air and I have a new personal super hero - his name is Raven Sutton! He dug out the yuckiest dead shrubs and turned over the soil in my flower beds in under 5 hours including a lunch break. That has to be a super power! I can't wait to get planting... oh the plans I have planned!

Uh oh, little McB is up. Here's a quick list of the latest at our tiny happy bungalow:
1. A new knit & crocheted cloche hat for MG adapted from this DROPS pattern
2. The paperwhites are growing! I love a good bit of thunder and lightening but this was a Wizard of Oz-like tornado. Trust me when I say, I was a tad freaked out! It left our neighborhood all jumbled up with power lines, fallen trees and very sadly a bunch of crushed homes (both of the bungalows behind us are a mess). So today we are feeling very grateful to have a home in one piece and no one hurt. And thank you to Miss Annie for the insanely yummy dark chocolate with pistachio buttercream cupcakes! Did you ever think of opening a bakery? Well, yes you did indeed!

-THANKFULLY HAPPY-
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOAap2APf8Hq8oleAQQ6_JjvJF5SgSofmSfagaQwyRiWTjfTlZECHQ3Dcfzwy5qxnyGLHjjAk0gida_hk7zR4RFyMMsB5UqbFGu_0uQCmdmHf-gDHEeQrAGs77sAlMxkJ9kXTQNL9v3yHi/s320/tornado2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579179169910694050" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0YbfpJ7qpTT26IC8ZFgm1wLtffFVrddRuAhW3-HkgXRmGOVZuBc4-sppnjYPqwGWhOpl5_zKGZ_bBRjVRHDltLwcShYM457ejNfTolAC2hZ_KSAVdE8uT-L2-HFs00qPeAdjc9ob1rVXu/s320/tornado5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579178645848397506" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaSvx6repCZ_en51QxzUYJffnj_5Gx0TzqltuEt90Zw_cvtCwu2OlFxbohVSZeXvCLVCd3_e9cmGMkEWQtaVfh_hwzOWJ7M98ifV_D52FX0jVtm8gp_DGJZJxnpkBFhl-uhwcNbJ6N50qN/s320/tornado.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579178638144816274" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_GpXDZNt4qjkt_jaQ1GxPv6USflcn6elNNJyxaNrCld2f_ZiFeCDHjZbn-7KCFVAOt2hUu_H-lLu_Uxx_FVko4w3NLOFIywzGhOsrRgPEaTZdhMFw40cN9JiMwY7SxdoltzxKtfUj7ZK-/s320/tornado4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579178634951861618" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 277px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzhY1f7d-pPxL7wpMWFcYjOVghQDt2CZDeWg2SV_XAeeyUxmiKp7pdxyjnWx3ascZ_6wik1XuiFjcgN9b7R_Wfjp0DSN9MzGFTuWFhFcQTP4G5i2q7u6vvC3BzGmGifyqSHAcIOBYEbPyg/s320/tornado3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579178624572790786" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4
